Film Review - What did you see last?

Post by Tiger Totty » 07 Mar 2008, 14:01

Ok, in true Jonathan Woss style, let's have a film review thread. :D

Just your thoughts on the last film you saw and no spoiling the endings for other people! :P

Here goes;

Last week saw Rambo.
Hmm, jury is out on this one, lot's and lot's of blood and wasn't so sure of Sly wandering around in Thai fishermans pants and wet black t-shirt from the almost constant rain. Didn't like his continual stuck out bottom lip either which made him look a few bricks short. Was an ok watch if you have nothing else to do, even had a blast from the past with a pig pen type episode.
Rambo gets a 2 out of 5

This week saw, Untraceable.
I quite liked this thriller, the BF thought it was pants but I liked it. It's about a FBI agent who tackles naughty people on the internet, those who site up naughty nasty sites. It's just basically about her tracking down a bad boy who has set up a site showing realtime killings. I thought it was fast paced and kept me entertained, sometimes its a bit sick, but nothing as bad as Saw stuff.
Untraceable gets a 2.5 out of 5 too.

The last film I watched was 28 Weeks Later and that was weeks ago! In fact I really should get myself down to the cinema since I haven't been there since I went to see I Am Legend.

Interesting couple of films to bring up though I think since the latter struck me as a complete rip off of the film to which the former provides a sequel.

Will Smith's acting performance in I Am Legend is excellent but the film is pretty mediocre to be honest. It felt like covering old ground for the simple fact that 28 Days Later told the same story, but in London instead of New York, and did it so much better.

But anyway, as films go (let alone sequels) 28 Weeks Later is a fantastic film. It's got emotion, it's scary, there's loads of action and then there are those moments which just completely freak you out.

The story begins just before the end of 28 Days Later, but featuring different people and then proceeds to fill in the gaps before starting the story with efforts to repopulate the UK. Unfortunately everything doesn't go to plan as the rage virus takes a hold on the country once again with terrifying consequences.

Just don't watch it alone with the lights off like I did! :D

Right what have i seen on dvd lately.
Hostel
I thought this was great, it starts off like the normal road trip holidays, 2 mates pick up a hitchhiker and travel europe trying to find some birds to nail. Only the run into a sick scheme where people pay to kill others - it goes from been harmless to a gory film - Where just 1 guy escapes and gains his revenge but i loved it - was great and i would recommend it

Hostel 2 - I really looked forward to watching this but it was a complete copy of the first one, same situation apart from it was girls in this story - They meet someone who cons them into going to this strange place where people pay to kill them, 1 of them managed to escape again and went back and got revenge -- Not anywhere near as good as the first and i found it boring

Die hard 4.0 - like all die hards - this was fantastic - a must see for anyone who hasnt seen it

Next - This is a film where a guy can see things that will effect him in future before they happen, he is needed by the goverment to stop major crime, it confused me though because it showed it as they were acting on what he told them he imagined -- and then rolled the film right back to the start and it was all just one of his visions - was good though

Knocked up - Watched this last night, Basically a well off celebrity TV host goes out and gets hammered and ends up shagging this low life who has bigger [REMOVED] than her and spends his time watching movies to find out who and when they get naked to post the info on a website - She ends up preggas with his child and they have to try and give it a go - They eventually get together after he sorts himself out when they originally break up -- Good film but its not really my type
I have Blood diamond left now which i will probably watch over the weekend

I tired to watch 28 Days Later but found it just too scary! So never got on to 28 Weeks Later.

At the cinema this week there was a trailer for another Zombie type movie but cannot remember its name but I remember thinking it was just like Dawn of the Living Dead. Also an ad for a British film called The Cottage which looked like a 'funny' version of the Texas Chainsaw film.

Next - sounds quite interesting.

Was trying to get to see Cloverfield but it was never on at a good time for us. Think next week might see Jumper

Why not? You can talk about anything you have seen recently on Betamax tapes or VHS but NOT those dirty porn ones. Ok?

watched Mr.Woodcock last night, it was ok, I'd give it 3/5. Thought it would have been better with it having Stiffler in it, out of American Pie.

Wuss! ;) You wouldn't like the bit of 28 Weeks Later where they're in the underground then. That was really freaky!

Never fancied that when I saw trailers for it. There's only ever been one decent chick flick I reckon and that's 10 Things I Hate About You.

Exactly...

Seriously though, I don't watch many movies and certainly don't go to the cinema. What I do watch is long after they've been at the flicks so I'm always way behind.

Totty, here's one for you. Go see Control, the biopic of Joy Division and Ian Curtis. I wasn't around when they made it, can barely remember New order! None the less, I watched it on the plane to the States last month and its possibly the best film I've seen in 5 years.

All I knew was they made it big so to speak, then Ian topped himself. Its thought provoking, sad in places but certainly worth a watch.

Great film.

The last 2 films I have seen have been

Untraceable

Possibly the worst film I have ever sat through. The plot is rubbish, and although the way people are killed is quite original, the terrible acting spoils it. One to avoid. 1/5

The Bank Job

I thought this was fantastic, a true British film at its best. Jason Statham plays a brilliant role and the supporting actors are all good. It's got a bit of everything in it and is possibly the best film I have seen in the last year or so, well worth the money. Go see it now!!

At the weekend I watched The Simpsons Movie - Not an actual fan of the Simpsons as a flatmate I had turned me off it as she watched it constantly as well as Friends, on my Sky that she didn't contribute to...

Anyway that's a whole other story.

So the movie, not a fan as I have said but actually thought it was ok, laughed in some bits (I had, had two glasses of wine) and thought it transferred from a 30 min slot to a movie timeslot pretty well. As I am not really a fan of cartoons, its not going to score highly but if you have nothing else to watch give it a go.

Gets 1 out of 5.

Is there someone else? If you have seen it, you will know what I am on about.....Arrgghhh, if someone can PM and explain muxh appreciated...

On the confusing stakes it gets a 5/5...
