Congratulations to Castleford cricket star Tim Bresnan, who made his England debut recently and finally got his name in lights when taking 3 wickets in the 2nd test which finished earlier this week.
I still find it hard to believe that more isn't made of the fact that Tim is a Cas lad and learned his cricketing skills in Castleford.
Most reports simply describe Tim as "Pontefract born", ignoring the fact that he is from Castleford and a Cas lad, he went to school in Castleford and played cricket in his formative years, in the town.
Not sure if anyone knows of others sporting stars from Castleford, who because of the fact the they are born in the maternity wing at Pontefract hospital, are simply described as "Pontefract born", it is even possible they only spent the first few hours of their life in Pontefract and never set foot in the place ever again.
The article below in the local paper is an exception to this....
