St Helens away
Re: St Helens away
Cas have lost their last 23 away League matches at Saints, but did draw there in 1998. It’s correct to state that the last time that Cas won against Saints in a League match was indeed 29-16 on the 21st October 1990, that’s 31 matches ago. However, it was not always thus. From the 1980/81 season Cas beat Saints 7 times in 4 successive seasons:-
1980/81 22-21 at home, 8-5 away.
1981/82 lost 17-32 at home, but won 40-10 away
1982/83 31–10 at home, 24-23 away
1983/84 26-22 at home, 22-10 away.
In fact at home Cas became a bit of a bogey team for Saints as following that home defeat in the 1981/82 season, Cas beating Saints at Wheldon Road in 9 successive seasons, drew the following season then won 3 more times in the following 4 seasons before the Super League era.
Overall the 16 seasons prior to Super League produced 20 wins, 2 draws and 10 defeats.
In the Super League season’s Cas have won only 6 matches, drawn twice, but lost 43 times
Time for a change methinks!

That draw in 88 should have been a lose too we were 2 points behind with a minute left ref gave us a penalty under sticks somebody trys taking a quick tap knocked on and ref said no retake it and we went for goal on second chance

Re: St Helens away
Assuming you mean 1998 (the 32-32 draw), it was Brad Davies who decided to take a quick tap and go for the try. Dean Sampson pulled him back (after he’d taken the tap) and told the referee he never touched it with the foot. The Saints players went ballistic and Karl Hammond was sin-binned for dissent.tigerfeat wrote:That draw in 88 should have been a lose too we were 2 points behind with a minute left ref gave us a penalty under sticks somebody trys taking a quick tap knocked on and ref said no retake it and we went for goal on second chance
Incidentally Dean Sampson also scored an 11 minute hat-trick in that game, all from the same move with Adrian Vowles. If I remember correctly, at the time it was the fastest hat-trick in top level RL . I’ve no idea if this has been bettered since, but our result hasn’t!
Re: St Helens away
Yes sorry 1998 yes I remember Diesel scoring three quick trys and there players and supporters going mental when ref let us have a rethink and kick at goal

Re: St Helens away
In terms of what that will have taken out of saints it was the perfect game but wrong result. There going to come at us all guns blazing on Friday.
Another negative is that Warrington won’t care too much about Thursday night at Salford.

Exactly. Their own place in the top 5 is precarious as it is. Wakey and Leeds up next both of which could need to win to stay up. Can’t afford to slip up and they will want to get form back ahead of the playoffs.Tamworth Tiger wrote:They will if they want to get to OTbraytontiger wrote:In terms of what that will have taken out of saints it was the perfect game but wrong result. Holbrook has the same problem as Powell, he can do it week in week out but the games that matter, he gets out coached.tigerfeat wrote:Holbrooks a nice bloke but thought he was completely out coached today

Re: St Helens away
The ridiculous decision by Hicks to not even go to the screen for Knowles try(which was confirmed a try by the replays) completely changed the game, saints had all the momentum and chances at that point
We'll definitely feel the backlash
Salford will hammer wire too

Re: St Helens away
Saints fans will be getting nervous after this about the GF, potentially another season were a team finishing 16 points behind the best team of the year could walk away as ‘champions’
What a joke

Do you know what the appeal for it to be watched was hardly there I can accept how he reffed today he called it as he saw it and let play carry on freely thought was a good game. Ultimately St's just didn't get to find many gaps wire were great value for the winthe machine wrote:The ridiculous decision by Hicks to not even go to the screen for Knowles try(which was confirmed a try by the replays) completely changed the game, saints had all the momentum and chances at that point

Ah yes, the old ‘backlash’ theory. The reason why no team ever loses 2 weeks on the bounce.derkster wrote:can see us getting the backlash from the final next week.

Re: St Helens away
What WAS embarrassing was Hicks and Thaler between them trying to even things up by finding fault in Lineham’s perfectly fine try.
That was absolutely disgusting in itself and the only reason it was disallowed was due to the one earlier not given to Saints and Knowles.
Pathetic.
Thaler in particular is spineless.

It's even worse when it's a game on BBC you get to hear the buffoon start off saying "if there's the slightest contact I've got to award a no try "
But yeah that was as bad as hicks not going to the screen
