It's not a question of ambition, it's a question of having realistic expectations.

So you think we will go from a bottom placed team to a top 7 team overnight?

Do you not think that the other teams outside the top 6 will be improving their playing staff?

Our definition of decent is obviously different. I think we will be an improved side, but not drastic enough to expect the things that you do.

WHELDON-ROAD-END wrote:If TM was to come out next season and say where targeting a 10th place position, fans would go mad, they don't come to watch a team try and finish 2 places higher than last year!
Maybe some people would, then others might not expect miracles overnight.

WHELDON-ROAD-END wrote:We should be wanting to finish 6th and looking to finish around 7th or 8th if not.
Ok then, I'll humour you. Why only aim for 6th then? Shouldn't we be aiming to win the Grand Final? What is the point of being in something if you don't want to win it?

WHELDON-ROAD-END wrote:Im sure Catalan this year targeted play offs and looked focused and have made it, i bet Mick Potter wanted about 6th but as got 3rd.
I think the only target that they will have had is an improvement on the previous season, which would be a step forward.

WHELDON-ROAD-END wrote:We should start now, we haven't bought in Sargent and Chase and Widders to finish 10th have we, obviously TM is planning on going up that table.
You think that the calibre of player mentioned above, added to what we have is good enough to finish inside the 6? I disagree.

WHELDON-ROAD-END wrote:Maybe i have got my head in clouds, or maybe you just don't think highly of a team your SUPPOSED to love!
Ah yes, great comment. Because I don't expect us to finish in the top 6, I don't love Cas. Ok then.

Noble - appears to struggle when he can't rely on a totally domminant pack.

Harrison - Up and down like a porn stars

Anderson/Lowes - too early to make accurate judgement.

Wayne Bennett - maybe but don't know enough about is playing career.

I believe there should be more and would count Shaun Edwards but there does appear to be a shorfall in the number that make he transition. Wonder why?
i think you are way off ive given just two names
i would say 90% of the top coaches played professional ?

Not sure about 90%, but I'd say 99% of crap coaches used to be players.

What's probably more apt is how many great players go on to be top coaches........ usually not many. Plenty of average or below average players become good coaches, so maybe people just forget that those people did play that game.

What's with the !!!!!!, can't you post without them?

Anyways, for every top player that went on to be a top coach, I bet I can give you 5 back who were either poor players making great coaches or great players failing to coach.

Dennis Betts - failed as a RL coach and is now skills coach at Gloucester RU

John Joyner - SL coach of the year once, but soon went down hill

With the squad we have lined up so far for next season, I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you.

Personally I think 10th is likely, but 9th/8th may be possible if we pick up the odd shock win.

With less than a squad of 25 signed on top players, you can bet when it gets to that point in the season where injuries are picked up - we will struggle.

The signing of Widders is an improvement on what we have - and that means we are going in the right direction... But on a 3 year deal we'd better hope that he develops into something more than he has been at the Rabbitohs this season, else we may end up with a dead weight on a long contract.

I can see the pessimism that this signing has been met with - We've signed a relatively unknown quantity on a long-term contract, and it's a high risk strategy. If it comes off great - but our signing history seems to indicate that we've made a mistake more often than not.

I do hope Widders comes to the club and has a new found motivation to succeed with Cas - and if he does i'll welcome him with open arms...

...But we need more numbers else it's just going to make a hard job near impossible next season.
Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?

There is a thin line between insanity and genius. I walk that line every day.

Read the post i did not say i think the team will go to a top 7 team overnight i said we should have the ambition to be AIMING for a top half place with the right signings big difference

Widders seems like a perfect signing for our community.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mjCWRa4__Fs

In my opinion, exactly the "type" of fella we need off the field, and the ones good off the field usually carry the fans infectious enthusiasm onto the field.

(Diesel, Fritzy, Vowlesy, Ronnie Gibbs! etc)

A lot has to be looked at in terms of a players attitudes coupled with their ability and my opinion is we have got this one bang on.

I can't let you have that one Toppo coached a very poor squad of players and staved off relegation for years and even won a Yorkshire cup because he was Trinity through and through
He was a very good coach and was wanted by quite a few top clubs but he wouldn't leave his beloved Waky

I must admit I am relying on the words of a player once coached by Toppo who claims he was far mor intersted in the social side rather than the hard graft in training.
