Re: Worst EVER signing
Bragger was shocking. 70,000 quid as well.
Re: Worst EVER signing
Ime sure I saw bragger playing against Chorley in his first game . Came from Salford 70k . Blimey he was bad
Re: Worst EVER signing
40k from memory.
He was appalling. Think he'd played for Salford before us.
McKell was already playing for us before raper arrived. Suspect a JJ last signing. He was very poor at that stage.
When raper came, he had him playing a very basic prop role, and mckell actuallymthen picked up a few MOM awards.
Like said earlier, mckell gave his all and I was slightly disappointed we let him go.
Goddard & Flynn were shocking signings too, but Greenhill was truly shocking. Knuckles as he was known was anything but!
Although a few people seem to like him, and time has been kind to him, but Steve Larder was an appalling full back. Terrible. Couldn't catch a cold. Couldn't tackle a bowl of rice crispies. Although he scored 31 tries, he cost us just as many. I remember a regal trophy semi final in 90 or 91; Wigan really really embarrassed him under the high ball.

Re: Worst EVER signing
I remember a Yorkshire Cup semi replay v Featherstone, 2 points down to a Mark Knapper touchline conversion, last attack of the game, 3 man overlap 20 meters out and Larder chucks a pass out that nearly hit the wall at the back of the Princess Street StandMysterio wrote: Steve Larder was an appalling full back. I remember Peter Coyne throwing a rare dummy
Everyone bought it and he sailed through the gap. Every single person in the stadium (players fans etc) were amazed by it - even Peter Coyne himself! So much so he stopped running after 10yd and subsequently got tackled....

Re: Worst EVER signing
What about the winger I think called ......Wray . Someone passed him the ball against Leeds at headingley with a open line and he missed the ball .

This incident leads me to one of the greatest quotes ever....ERG2012 wrote:I remember Peter Coyne throwing a rare dummy

Darryl Van de Velde described this run on the radio as
" It was a brilliant dummy and run cos Coyne couldn't normally go 50 yards if he fell down a mine shaft...."
Funny the things you remember over the years...

Re: Worst EVER signing
Unfair to Ryan Hudson, I think. I thought he was a big player in the team we had then.

Re: Worst EVER signing
Thought Tookey did a job, and for London actually.
Was a very poor side at that time.

For me Frano Bottica, could kick them back heeled from the touchline for Wigin then misssed one from in front of the sticks on debut for us!
Come on ye Ford

Fairly sure Boticas kicking kept us up in 96

Re: Worst EVER signing
He was half the player, still talented but his pace had gone and never really felt his heart was in it. I was amazed at the time us getting his signature.TT Tiger wrote:Fairly sure Boticas kicking kept us up in 96
Peter coyne for me was a shocker. I can hop faster than he could run.
Re: Worst EVER signing
It's very subjective, we make a new signing and before the player put a shirt on, we all have an opinion as to whether or not that player is a good or bad signing, then after pulling on a Cas shirt, supporters have vastly differing opinions as to whether that player was a good or bad signing, I think a number of the names mentioned on here, were unwarranted, but of course, it's all about personal opinions.
Craig Greenhill is top of the list for me, even my auto spell checker didn't like him and changed his name to Greenville!
Another really bad signing was Steve Nash, a gem that Mildred picked up from Leigh, when he could have got their other prop, Chris Hill, although in his defence, Nash didn't get big raps before he signed for us!
I trust in DP's signings, but as we know, not all of them come off, but the large majority do and it's great to see the development of so many players under Daryl and his backroom staff.
