Re: Full back suggestions
I can only presume he EE’s JC as cover for either wing and full back, but if you look at it , KG is still returning from injury, if we get a injury to our wingers we have Lo or Clare , if we get injury to a centre , minikin moves in one , Clare or Lo to wing , injury to half back, Roberts to half back Eden or Clare to full back, injury to full back , again Clare or Eden , but the biggest positive is the competition for places and the ability to slot in without too much distruption, and I’ve not included JY in the mix yet , what a good place to be , a squad of around 30 , defending the league leaders shield . Years ago we would have only dreamt of being in this position.

a year of full time training will do Callum Turner & Jack Render the world of good also, both capable wing/ full backs. Plus Robbie Storey as a quality centre.

Re: Full back suggestions
The fact is we are a worse side on paper than last season without a doubt, a half back returning who Powell didn't think good enough for the role in 2014 and Roberts is not a patch on Hardaker at the back.
We have also not solved our problem front row area with poor recruitment there. Next season could be a tough one,I just hope we don't follow the same path of the 2 previous LLS winners.

A half back that Powell offered a new deal to, which HE turned down because of promise of first team rugby.Sharlotiger wrote:The fact is we are a worse side on paper than last season without a doubt, a half back returning who Powell didn't think good enough for the role in 2014 and Roberts is not a patch on Hardaker at the back.

A front row area where Lynch was a bit part and player and Patrick spent three quarters of it in the stand.
Barring Hardaker the rest of the starting 17 is the same.

Re: Full back suggestions
So Ellis ( a player Powell only really used as a hooker) is a better option at half back than Roberts? the problem in our front row area was there before last season and with Lynch now being off the wages bill it was hoped that a quality front rower would have been brought in, a area in the tough conditions we struggled in. But a alas no , we recruit Wardle for the back row, a position we had well covered and we will then play JSL in the front row instead of the back row where he showed he was far more effective.HuddsTigers wrote:A half back that Powell offered a new deal to, which HE turned down because of promise of first team rugby.Sharlotiger wrote:The fact is we are a worse side on paper than last season without a doubt, a half back returning who Powell didn't think good enough for the role in 2014 and Roberts is not a patch on Hardaker at the back.

Poor recruitment I feel, I like Wardle but surely a good prop was far more important.

Re: Full back suggestions
Roberts who many fans were calling crap, injury-prone and whatever else last season?
I like Roberts but his kicking game at times isn’t good and he isn’t consistent enough either. Ellis has a good kicking game and time will tell whether it is the right move.
He only used Ellis as hooker last time because Sneyd ripped it up for 3/4s of the season and Finn was extremely consistent too.
As for the forwards, none of us know how Green or Clark are going to go. Nor how much Daryl Powell will improve them or get extra % out of them. I’m not prepared to write off our recruitment before they have stepped out in a new team, new ethos, new training and fitness regime and new philosophy.
Time will tell about 10 rounds into the season whether we got it right or not. And if we don’t that’s life. Sides improve, we have no right to be top every season. We can demand consistency and 100% effort but we don’t need to be arrogant like some Wire, Wigan, Leeds and Hull fans.

Re: Full back suggestions
Seem to be a lot of assumptions that Roberts at full back = Ellis as a starting half back. Perhaps we might be surprised.
Re: Full back suggestions
Who else at half back (given that Powell has already stated Benny will be our #1 next season)???Tiger53 wrote:Seem to be a lot of assumptions that Roberts at full back = Ellis as a starting half back. Perhaps we might be surprised.

Have a word with yourself. Barring hardaker were no worse if not better.Sharlotiger wrote:The fact is we are a worse side on paper than last season without a doubt, a half back returning who Powell didn't think good enough for the role in 2014 and Roberts is not a patch on Hardaker at the back.

Lunch and Patrick who must have played a dozen games between them last year have been replaced with 2 hungry young sizeable blokes. Can't do any worse than 2 that hardly played.
Roberts kicking game is crap let's be honest 90% of the time. Ellis has a cracking kicking game to compliment Gale's. Roberts running game is well suited to FB. Whether his defence and catching is as good as zak will remain to be seen.
Lo again will be just as good a monners was.
Wardle improves our starting 13.
Trueman more game time this year. He is or will be outstanding
Re: Full back suggestions
Im sure the main signing for next year will be a big prop forward we seem to make that one good signing like wardle a season unless theres a major injury crisis we will be there abouts only doubt would be how the new full back will go and if we can put right that poor performance at old trafford if we reach another final which i think we can

Has anyone thought of Luke at 6 and Jake at 7 ?
Re: Full back suggestions
Jake will get a few games but i doubt he will start the season as 1 of the startin halfs.Le Van wrote:Tiger53 wrote:You would think so wouldn't you? Re: Full back suggestions
Powell seems more than happy with the squad and particularly Benny at full back from the article I think from the Pontefract and Cas someone posted yesterday. It's convinced me, although I didn't need much convincing. Worth a read though. Didnt get the impression anyone else was coming in.Sharlotiger wrote:The fact is we are a worse side on paper than last season without a doubt, a half back returning who Powell didn't think good enough for the role in 2014 and Roberts is not a patch on Hardaker at the back.

Re: Full back suggestions
With the exception of SILLY ZAK we look stronger, Andy Lynch no doubt a top class prop went on a season to long, only playing to half the level he had been in the past, his replacements Green Clark and Douglas back from loan will be pushing to get in the first team, Monaghan another that had just gone by his sell bye date, replaced by Garry LOW and James Clare, Full back is going to a hard one to fill Benny tweeted that he was going to see a specialist fingers crossed he would be OK as we have heard nothing hopefully no news is good news, the friendly's will give us an indication who that will be if Benny is absent
Re: Full back suggestions
I hope we get to see Douglas this season. I know it was only one game he played for us so far but didn’t look out of place at all. He showed far more in that match than Maher has done in any for me.gateman wrote:With the exception of SILLY ZAK we look stronger, Andy Lynch no doubt a top class prop went on a season to long, only playing to half the level he had been in the past, his replacements Green Clark and Douglas back from loan will be pushing to get in the first team, Monaghan another that had just gone by his sell bye date, replaced by Garry LOW and James Clare, Full back is going to a hard one to fill Benny tweeted that he was going to see a specialist fingers crossed he would be OK as we have heard nothing hopefully no news is good news, the friendly's will give us an indication who that will be if Benny is absent
