If round 1 was tomorrow, what would be your 1-17
Re: If round 1 was tomorrow, what would be your 1-17
my big worry is that if some of our very talented young players don't get a crack at the first team they will be wanting away, I know we can not keep them all, but I love seeing our home grown talent playing in the first team, the last one to cement his place was Oliver Holmes he only got his chance because we were down on troops, last year we gave Ogodo and Trueman a taste the both came up trumps

Im fairly certain the Milner and D Clark were after Holmes. Both cemented their place.gateman wrote:my big worry is that if some of our very talented young players don't get a crack at the first team they will be wanting away, I know we can not keep them all, but I love seeing our home grown talent playing in the first team, the last one to cement his place was Oliver Holmes he only got his chance because we were down on troops, last year we gave Ogodo and Trueman a taste the both came up trumps
Also, in the last 10 / 12 years weve had Huby, Shenton, Westerman, O Holmes, Massey, Milner, Clark, Thompson and a few more come through our ranks and cement their places in the team, obviously some have moved on for one reason or another but i think it shows we are a good club for juniors to come and progress into the first team.

I think that since the advent of superleague, defined full time contracts and player's agents you're unlikely to see many one club men gateman. Under the old retain and transfer system clubs had players more or less for life, even legends like JJ wanted away at some point but were beholden to the club.
The trick these days is to get the best academy players into the first team if they're good enough then try to keep them or get a transfer fee for them before they go out of contract.
The area still produces a good proportion of top players, some of whom go through the cas academy system and some who go elsewhere. I do think that we're letting less youngsters through the net under DP than when Basil was in charge although it's always likely to occur in a rugby league hotbed where there may be 20 or 30 top prospects in any one age group and only 7 or 8 academy spaces available to fill.
So we'll never get them all and even back in the eighties good cas lads such as Goodway were going elsewhere

8 in 12 years is so so poor. For a team who has a school at Wembley every year.

Schools rugby is poor in relation to club rugby they play against schools that don't have a single player that plays in the community at times. It's a total miss match hence the same schools get to the finals every year, you only need a couple of half decent players and they run riot.Casmoley wrote:StevieTheTV wrote:Im fairly certain the Milner and D Clark were after Holmes. I agree with most of the above, but I wish JSL could be used in the second row a bit light weight for a prop but what an engine the lad has, BENNY everyone's favourite for full back no news about his visit to the specialist as yet

If everyone is fit I'd go with

2. Lo
3.Webster
4.Shenton
5.Eden
6.Ellis
7.Gale
8.JSL
9.McShane

11.Wardle
12.McMeeken
13.Massey
Bench
14.Milner
15.Moors
16.Cook
17.Holmes.
Last season we made the mistake at their place of leaving our big guns on the bench for the first 20 and Moors, Millo etc became ineffective as we had no ball for the last 20 of the first half and ended up behind the 8 ball.

Only one thing wrong with that Sharlotiger, IMO is Lo, tackling technique seems suspect, something DP will be working on I hope.
Re: If round 1 was tomorrow, what would be your 1-17
Just imaging how dangerous the left edge would be of Gale JSL Wardle Shenton Eden! That would be devastating.
And the cover we now have across the back line is phenomenal.
If benny is at FB we have cover from the young French lad and Eden for injury. Wingers we have in abundance centres cover wise wardle minikin gill egodo. Half back cover Truman benny and mcshane. Props we have a lot even though most complain they are not block buster but after Millo JSL Cook and Massey there is green Clark maher springer and I think we will see foster feature at prop too. In the 2nd row if wardle and mcmeekan start with moors on the bench then that still leaves Holmes. To meet we look in good shape for a strong push on the top again.
