Re: squad numbers
Yes i must admit i thought Turner would have warranted a squad number, does the lad want one ?? is he putting his studies before his rugby ?? is he moving on, the lad as achieved as much as he can being picked for England, but as the old saying goes you can take an horse to water but you cant make it drinkCasmoley wrote:Gateman won't be happy.. no Squad number for Turner, Rayy, Render, Storey or Bustin.
Re: squad numbers

Those were the days in soccer, 5:3:2.fast hands wrote:HuddsTigers wrote:I disagree. Most sports fans will already know that teams operate with squad numbers. Look at the NFL, player numbers are a 'brand' and have no bearing on position (from what I know).gateman wrote:from day one when squad numbers were brought in i didn't see what they brought to the table, before the lads used to fight to get into the team and make a position their own, nothings changed , only thing now is a mismatch of numbers instead of players being 1 to 17 it must be so confusing to any one new to the game to understand
Football the only that's standard is 1 being the goalkeeper. Even then that's not always the case. And it used to be the case that 4 and 5 were central defenders and 11 and 7 being midfielders. Now you have 4 as a midfielder and strikers wearing 11 and 7, or being able to pick the numbers they want.
You learn who the players are by their positioning not by squad numbers. In most cases it will be:
WING-CENTRE-HALF-SECOND-ROW-PROP-HOOKER-LOOSE FORWARD-PROP-SECOND ROW-HALF-CENTR
FULL BACK[/quote
Shows you are still young Hudds, at soccer, 4 and 6 were wing - halves, 7 and 11 were out and out wingers, 10 was the creative player. Oh well time moves on. and not to forget they had linesmen, think we have always had touch-judges in our sport.
And in our game we had halves not stanzas, passes not offloads, and real brawls, not handbags....and Chuck Hardisty. The games also lasted one and a half hours all in.

personally i think it's for the youngster, he must see something in them to take them to Lanzarote. Wigan have a squad of 39. I guarantee the 4/5 missing out would have had that bit more confidence with a squad number.

Yeah id have gone another number and put turner inCasmoley wrote:tigerfeat wrote:Sorry for being mr thicko what odds it make who got a number who not got number if powell wanted to pick turner or anybody else he could couldnt he ?

like Bustin, sign him on a one year deal and ship him out too Bradford. No squad number possibly won't play for us.. makes you wonder why sign him in the first place.

I get that but it's the risk of it. If it doesn't work out it's a years payment for nothing, if it does work out we'll get first dibs on a new deal.

I'm with you. Cas B team consisting of Clare Bustin Jy Maher Douglas Clark Gadwin against say Wakey B team with Baldwinson Annakin Batchelor Caton-brown Arundel plus all the kids would be a great watch for me! rather than 2 at Newcastle, 2 at Halifax, 1 at Bradford ECT..

I think the youngsters going to Lanzarote were very much an after thought, as they were invited very late to join the party.Casmoley wrote:tigerfeat wrote:Sorry for being mr thicko what odds it make who got a number who not got number if powell wanted to pick turner or anybody else he could couldnt he ?

Even in the late afternoon yesterday some of the young lads didn't know if they were or werent going to the event last night.

Re: squad numbers
So we have him tied up while we monitor how he goes in week in week out competition. I don't agree with it, but without a reserve team what choice is there? The RFL should be making reserve teams compulsory IMO.Casmoley wrote:tigerfeat wrote:Yeah id have gone another number and put turner inCasmoley wrote:tigerfeat wrote:Sorry for being mr thicko what odds it make who got a number who not got number if powell wanted to pick turner or anybody else he could couldnt he ?

Regards RFL making reserve grade compulsory I understand that the super league clubs hold power on that decision and the super league CEO in favour are in the minority the money sky pump into the greatest game especially over recent years those CEO who vote against should hold there heads in shame for there short sightedness the seamless transition within each super league club from academy to potential first grade is sadly missing

Re: squad numbers
Surely there’s no risk at all? Are Bradford paying his salary? We hold his registration and we get to monitor his development and keep growing him in our environment.Casmoley wrote:HuddsTigers wrote:To give him full time training in a quality environment?

There’s little risk. If he plays well we get a good player. If he doesn’t play well or we don’t see enough in him, it gives him security of being able to get a deal at another club and put him in the shop window.
Remember this is a young kid who may have been lost to the game. I actually see this as a good thing the club have done in supporting a young lad in his dreams.

Re: squad numbers
Bang on. The RFL should grow a pair though and take that responsibility on themselves, and just tell the clubs - from next season the reserve grade competition starts. If you don't run one then you can't play in SL. Too much a case of the tail wagging the dog with certain things in my opinionJohnlewis1920 wrote:Regards RFL making reserve grade compulsory I understand that the super league clubs hold power on that decision and the super league CEO in favour are in the minority the money sky pump into the greatest game especially over recent years those CEO who vote against should hold there heads in shame for there short sightedness the seamless transition within each super league club from academy to potential first grade is sadly missing
