Tigers after Stosic?

Post by Fully » 21 Sep 2008, 12:45

GIANT New Zealand-born prop James Stosic is set to turn his back on the Gold Coast Titans and join the growing player exodus to the Super League.

Midway through the season, the 26-year-old was told by the Titans they didn't have enough cash to extend his contract beyond 2008. Since then, Stosic has played some of the best footy of his career.

That form hasn't gone unnoticed by the Titans who have suddenly come to the party in the last couple of weeks and offered him a two-year extension.

But the 105kg Kiwi says he's disappointed with the club and would prefer to move his young family to the UK.

"The Titans have offered me a two-year contract extension. They are obviously pretty strapped for cash next year and they want me to take a pay cut," Stosic told Sunday News.

"They've told me they will make it up to me the year after.

"I've talked to quite a few of the senior blokes at the club and they all agree with me that I shouldn't even be in this situation.

"I've been playing well enough that I at least deserve to be offered the same amount of money next year as a worst-case scenario."

It's understood he has had interest from up to four clubs in England.

Stosic would not name the clubs interested in him but Sunday News understands Castleford are the front-runners to get his signature.

"I've got an offer on the table and it's just a case of getting it written up on paper," was all he would say.

Stosic expects to finalise his contract this week.

I don't know anything about him. Does anyone? He is a big unit and could add size to our squad. Then again, Korki is a big unit too.

See above for stats.

Gold Coast originally told him they weren't keeping him due to costs, but then he impressed and so they changed their mind offering him a 2-year deal on less money.

He makes on average 8 metres per run

A good solid first grade player. Would be a good signing.

and that is in NRL which is impressive. Hopefully, if he does come then he will turn out to be a good signing. Is it likely he'll be coming? I know he wants to come to the UK to be with his family but are there any other SL teams interested?

What's his position with regards to quota spot?

He will be quota, but if the rumours regards Korkidas are true, he will be taking his spot on the quota.

Shouldn't looking for a fullback be our main priority?

NO!!!!

we lost so many games because we were weak up front, win the forwards battle and results will come. lets go wi either owen, goldy or evans at FB and next season sign a FB if we need to. the club obviously realise a top pack is an absolute bleedin must!!!!!

Plus the fact, if true, that we're chasing Jordan Tansey to fill that spot.

Tansey is a good player, he just looks ordinary in the Leeds team because of all the class around him.

With a fair enough contract, it would be good to have him at Cas. He can fill in at many positions. Winger, centre, full back and hooker. He would be a good addition to the squad. However, I really hope nothing ridiculous gets thrown his way. I.e. a four year highly paid contract. Plus, he's English so wouldn't take up any space on the quotas.

followed him on Friday against the saints. He seemed busy and reliable - could be a good move if true. But as said before, no silly money and long contract until he has proven himself away from Leeds.

Stosic seems dependable and would certainly add a bit more beef to our pack. Also, he is the right age/form and seems to value his family life, so on this basis he could have a positive effect on other players. I'd be interested to know who the oter clubs are that are rumoured to be interested. Wakey are, in my opinion, in need of a big prop and could easily afford to get shut of Wilkes and Bibey. Also they should have enough money left over withplayers leaving, but no-onecoming in yet.
The Tansey to Cas rumour seems to be re-surfacing again. I would be happy to see him in black & amber next year. If certain posters on here are to be beleived then if he does sign it will be an a reasonable salary as we don't have much left in our pockets. Would be a good bit of business for us. Is he interested though? That's the question which needs to be answered.
