Re: sam tagataese
There's absolutely no way on Earth we are going to sign Walmsley/Burgess.
Money will be spent on solid players and retaining contracts. We will be losing Rangi (who will have been on a small contract), Crooks potentially (no guarantee yet) and Larroyer (who will have been on a small deal). Lynch will probably have the biggest deal
Monaghan I can see us keeping if the deal is right for another year. When you think that the above salaries come to around £250k, Wardle will probably take up £75-100k of that. Take out contract renewals and upgrades across the season including to likes of McMeeken and money starts to go down
I reckon we have probably got space for 1 more signing. Possibly two if someone becomes available like Larroyer. Really can't see too much change at Cas next season. Pretty much a similar squad for me.
Likes of Maher, Fitzsimmons, Douglas and Holmes are going to have to step up.

Re: sam tagataese
WOW FACTOR
How many of our players would have been described as possessing the wow factor when they arrived at Cas.
Perhaps Hardacre although he was not as good as when he won the Man of Steel.
Our visitor on the under nineteens post has a pop at us and plays down Webster. He's provided some wow moments this season.
The facts speak for themselves.LLS,most players in Dream team,a good representation in the England Squad, contenders for the MoS,leading the Albert Goldthorpe Medal table top try scorer, candidate for Coach of the Season.
Daryl is our WOW factor but who would have thought that when he arrived from Fev.
How many questioned Steve Gills appointment.
I cannot number the times this season how many times l have said or thought wow..
I only know that last Thursday when The Shield was raised aloft l looked upon those On the feild with a tear in my eye,a smile on my face and thought WOW WOW WOW.
So not sure whether Wardle is our Wow signing,he's certainly no slouch but if Daryl or Steve say he's the one it will do for me.

So who is the "wow" signing Steve refereed to or was this a bad choice of words ?TheSheriff wrote:In the official announcement Cas refer to him as Scottish international. Not that he's English.LeagueLeaders wrote:I read about a week ago that Joe Wardle was the "wow" English forward because he plays back row and was born in Halifax. If thats the case then I doubt we will be getting any other forwards.

Joe Wardle is also in no way a wow signing.

I will be v surprised if there is not one more signing. I believe negotiations are under way with another forward. I reckon that may be it though. Unless someone becomes available with v reasonable wage demands I think Wardle +1 will be our recruitment for next year.

Re: sam tagataese
Id take Tagataese for us if thats the only deal available. With Lynch going,Brandon Douglas stepping up and Gadwin (hopefully) regaining some form we will be well stocked for forwards for 2018.

We are already well stocked for forwards without Tagataese.duke street 10 wrote:Id take Tagataese for us if thats the only deal available. With Lynch going,Brandon Douglas stepping up and Gadwin (hopefully) regaining some form we will be well stocked for forwards for 2018.
Re: sam tagataese
Would think that there a lot of Cas fans that want to see a good quality prop added if the club wants to continue as one of the top teams in S/L the only way is adding quality over the years by not adding progress was suffered

Re: sam tagataese
It would be great to get him because he would replace Lynch extremely well but I feel that, with Shenton and Monaghan looking due to retire and Webster not having too long left, we need to buy some good quality backs. Not forwardslaner wrote:Would think that there a lot of Cas fans that want to see a good quality prop added if the club wants to continue as one of the top teams in S/L the only way is adding quality over the years by not adding progress was suffered
Re: sam tagataese
We are losing Lynch an experienced prop Springer is not reliable Maher can't see him as SL player that leaves us with Patrick and Douglas as back up to the tried and trusted senior players so I can't understand your opinion on props but I do agree with you on cover in the centre maybe DP will bring in a prop and a utility back to add to the Wardle signing

Re: sam tagataese
Yeah, there has been a lot of talk about Wardle playing back row and JSL playing prop like he used to for Cronulla. If that is correct then I dont see why we need any props with so many already in the teamlaner wrote:We are losing Lynch an experienced prop Springer is not reliable Maher can't see him as SL player that leaves us with Patrick and Douglas as back up to the tried and trusted senior players so I can't understand your opinion on props but I do agree with you on cover in the centre maybe DP will bring in a prop and a utility back to add to the Wardle signing

Re: sam tagataese
If you think about it Moors, Cook, Springer, Sene Lefao, Patrick, Massey, Millington, Maher and Douglas can all play prop. 4 of those are regular players already so that leaves the other 5 as bench players or are out of the team. Other than the 2 that you mentioned I think that they are all more than qualified for a place in the starting line up. Therefore, we already have 3 good front rowers waiting at the sideline. We are not in need of props!

Re: sam tagataese
Patrick, Massey and Maher being listed shows there's quite a decent need for a prop. That's quite a substantial drop off from the likes of Millington, Cook & Moors. They are decent enough players but if there's better available, you get better.LeagueLeaders wrote: We are not in need of props!

Yes but we still need to buy other players and if we spend all of our money on forwards we will end up playing weak players out wideTheSheriff wrote:Patrick, Massey and Maher being listed shows there's quite a decent need for a prop. Re: sam tagataese
Are you really bagging Patrick and Massey, who are both props? Massey has been one of our more improved and consistent performers this season.TheSheriff wrote:Patrick, Massey and Maher being listed shows there's quite a decent need for a prop. Patrick has done more than Springer has in his games too. Or is this just your personal angst against them?

Re: sam tagataese
I would accept there is no need for another prop if Springer hadn't regressed so badly, Patrick had not been injured for most of the season and Maher struggling withhis iwn injuries and inability to convince.
Genyinely think we need someone with size.

They're all average players, they're fine but when there's better available why not get better? Having players like that as squad players is, however, excellent.HuddsTigers wrote:Are you really bagging Patrick and Massey, who are both props? Re: sam tagataese
You seem to be forgetting that we are limited to the amount that we can spend. We are a small club, have very few fans in comparison to many of the other teams, and need to replace the players that actually need replacing. Not just the ones where we think we could get somebody slightly betterTheSheriff wrote:They're all average players, they're fine but when there's better available why not get better?
