Fullback options 2019?

Post by heritage1926 » 29 Apr 2018, 12:51

At what point do we start looking at fullbacks for next season?

Personally, Jake Mamo should be high on the list, a player of his calibre should be in a top 4 team or a devent NRL club. David Mead would also be a target.

Or, do we promote from within, someone from the academy perhaps or try another player out of position? Obviously it's the last thing any of us want, but let's be fair, only reason Benny was tried there at the beginning was because it was a cheap option.

We should be looking now.
See what’s out there and available.
I’d be surprised if we aren’t looking already.

At the moment he's a 1 and he is starting to look very comfortable there. Was flawless against Wakie.

Time will tell, but, if he continues to develop as a fullback and enjoys playing there why move him?

If we want to play the way Powell likes a top line ball playing full back is essential. Without Dorn and Zak our attack as looked woeful this year, we need someone in now if we want to achieve anything this year so I would hope we are seriously looking at our options here and in Oz.

Agreed. Hense the reason most tries have come from kicks this year.

Turner needs a run imo he's up there with Walker. He's one of the most natural attacking full backs I've seen in a very long time his decision making in he 19s for his pass selection is top draw and it's time we let him have a shot looks at maloudi for Hull had a decent enough game against catalan given a chance. I'd go with Turner at back and give jake his chance to play 6 with Ellis 7 against hull.

I would suggest that we are looking already, and Mead/Evalds would be top of the list. I think Mamo is too injury prone. However, lets see how Trueman develops as the tracks start to dry up and combinations start clicking. It may be that he starts to click coming into the line. If he does, he has fantastic ball playing skills to put the winger away. I also noticed on Friday that he was starting to get a bit of confidence backing up down the middle more and looking for the offload coming. I wouldn't be writing him off yet as being the solution. I can't comment about Turner too much as I haven't seen him play enough.

If Catalan sign Tomkins , I'd also be happy with Gigot , although it seems they will just play him at either Centre or in the halves .

For me mead is a out and out fullback cant see him staying at catalans if tompkins arrives and most nrl teams have top full backs so id go for him without a doubt

trueman reminds me very much of a young paul wellens and if he wants to I think he could mature into a top class full back. wonder if ash robson fancies coming back.

I asked the question about Ash a while back mate, but it seems that he’ll only play part time now as needs to spend time with his business.
