When it comes to sporting achievements, Coyne's appointment was only ‘bettered’ by that lad that played for Arsenal but had never played pro football before.

Are you thinking of Ali Dia, who claimed to be George Weah’s cousin and came off the bench for Southampton???

IIRC Peter Coyne had a wow of a season in 92 getting the unfancied St George all the way to the GF. When he got to Cas he was obviously not 100%, and I was one of many that spent all year crying out for casper to play 6. Luckily he only had a 1 year contract and was quickly replaced by Kemp, a considerable improvement.

He just looked out of his depth. His brother was meant to be better. Was it Mark?
Peter was slow. Such a contrast to Steady and Casper and Mike Ford. Even Fors6 wasn't quick but seemed way better than Coyne.

Would think Peter Coyne to be the worst Aussie signing Cas have ever made, and that includes Brendan Hlad and Tom Harbrecht!! (and Sean Rudder who was also dreadful)

Still remember the one and only time he ever made a break, and all the team were so surprised that nobody had bothered to back him up. he broke through and made about 20 yds and then panicked and threw a pass backwards along the floor of about 30 yds!! Result - loss of ground of 10 yds.

Mitch Healey had his moments and had a stellar nrl career. Very disappointing but all in all he was much better than coyne and rudder, though about the same speed.

I remember him doing that away at Salford. Literally stopped with not a clue what to do. Like McMeeken at Wigan the other week.

Peter Coyne was supposed to have a pinpoint kicking game, unfortunately this proved to be tosh and his kicking in general play was crap, a truly truly awful signing but was he really worse than Rudder? Who could say lol.

(Still remember when we signed Rudder being told 200 career games in the NRL next to Andrew Johns, how can he be a bad player?)

Mitch Healey on the other hand whilst lacking pace was a genuinely good half back, and served us well from what I remember.

We have always had more joy with Kiwis than Aussies in the last 30 years at Cas, as a general rule, there have been notable exceptions both ways!

If I remember right coyne came over with a serious ankle injury and basically played injured the entire time he was here. I believe he also offered to go home but was told to play through the pain.

Always hard to judge a Aussie in there first year just off the top of my head Graham Bradley,Adrian Vowles,Grant MIllington were all average in their first season.
