Re: Fiji beat NZ
Great!! The big teams shouldn’t be handed anything. Just shows how much impact these players have when selected by Australia & New Zealand!! It’s a shame Tonga struggled! Would have liked to see them do a real number on Lebanon and prove there ability.
All coaching is, is taking a player where he can't take himself.

Re: Fiji beat NZ
Fiji tackled really well but were disjointed in attack.IMO they dominated the first half and should have been a lot more than 2 ahead at half time.second half was very frantic and the smaller nation did very well to get the win.both of todays matches were very competitive as I think ours will be.Good for the game I think as take Australia out of the equation then some of the lesser teams are well capable of turning over the so called big guns.
Re: Fiji beat NZ
Good to see Fiji doing so well but my hope is that it doesn’t derail rugby league in Nw Zealand, rugby league still needs a strong New Zealand!

Last friday there was one of the best sporting contests ive seen so far in 2017 when new zealand played tonga a grudge match that had everything you would want to see in a top sporting event id wasnt shown live on the bbc barely got a mention in any of there sport reports you would do well to find a paragraph about it in most national newspapers , the following day the other code had a raft of friendlys that got the full media treatment non of them got near to matching what was on offer in the rugby league match , its the age old problem rugby league as always faced in this country
on the rugby league world cup itself the pacific nations have been the stars there is fertile ground there for the powers that be to take the game there to a whole new level once this tournament is over ...

Just watched Fiji Bati Vs Kiwi's game. Even though there was no tries it must go down as one of the greatest WC games of all time. Brilliant stuff.
Re: Fiji beat NZ
What a shame that non of these great games have involved England and I still doubt any of our games will be given anywhere near the plaudits of some of the recent games mentioned
Re: Fiji beat NZ
Lets be real here, Lebanon tonga samoa n fiji are full of either ex kiwis n aussies or kiwis n aussies deemed not good enough. Its same with wales Ireland n scotland full of England so there all playing with a point to prove, the international stage is a farce tbh but at least it makes the games a little more competitive.

Re: Fiji beat NZ
I think the more realistic view is that for years, the Aussie side has been full of Kiwi's, Tongan's, Samoan's and Fijian's and the reality is many of those nationalities play in the NRL because it's on their doorstep.alftupper wrote:completely agree, rugby league is kidding itself calling this a World Cup.jackknife wrote:Lets be real here, Lebanon tonga samoa n fiji are full of either ex kiwis n aussies or kiwis n aussies deemed not good enough. Let's not forget the England team is full of NRL based players so it's no different really.
The Lebanese are the interesting ones and clearly Aussie based but it's a huge community that lives there because of the instability of the Middle East. Expansion of the sport could be based on this ex-pat input in Oz and possibly feed back through reduced immigration.

Re: Fiji beat NZ
If it takes hold. In North America then we will start seeing the game expand and I think RL is more up there ally than Union. So it was nice to see the USA side mainly full of USA players.
