Whitehaven need to raise 60 grand to survive till the end of the season , amazing to me the rl looking to take the game all over the world and weve not got a team from cumbria in super league , i used to look forward to trips up there staying in kendal on occasions before going to the game

I've always been of the opinion that its the difficulty of access that by road that holds the cumbrian clubs back.

Yes, the trip over to barrow is a nice one but you wouldn't want to stay there.

I've done the trip to Whitehaven which appears to take you close to Workington but Barrow seems another trek along the coastline from 'Haven. They're a picturesque drive but an all-day event that tires an old man like me so I think it's safe to say they are difficult to get to. I simply cannot imagine having to get there and back for a Thursday night game.

Other than trying to get there, what else can the RL community do?

Seems that koucash is starting up the cumbrian merger again. I think he's flogging a dead horse. He'll have to make a new team rather than merge but its not a massive fan base. Seems like he loves throwing money away.

I remember going to a cup game at Workington, two full trains went from Cas central, about 1968 or something I think. Nice journey on the train. A long time since I have heard of supporters trains going anywhere.

Was that Keith Jarratt’s first league match or have I just made that up?

Jarratt played for Barrow didn't he? Played for them in the CC 2nd round tie of 69 , another memorable train journey up to cumbria.

I went by train to that game, had to change at Carlisle.

Sorry I misread that. Thought it was Barrow you were talking about

just had a quick look, Carlisle were only in existence for about 13 years and we never played them in the challenge cup. we visited barrow for the 2nd round in 1970 and won 12-4

Pretty sure we played them in the CC 1st round , think it was 1981 , I went up for the weekend .Following round was away at Batley, then we went to Hilton Park and beat the high flying unbeaten Leigh side in the pouring rain. Unfortunately we lost the semi at Headingley to Hull to end my Wembley dreams that year.

We played Carlisle a total of 6 times over their 16 years as a pro club, away in the challenge cup in 1981/2 winning 17-2, home and away in 1982/3 in the first division winning both games, and in the Regal trophy in 1992/3 (home won 54-0) 1993/4 (home won 44-4) and away in 1995/6 losing 18-19.
