New Structure

Post by HuddsTigers » 23 Aug 2018, 17:28

According to Aaron Bower/Matt Shaw on Twitter and on TotalRL.

12 Team SL (1 up, 1 down)

Two teams to be added to Championship to make a 14 team league.

Only 1 Championship side to go down this season, top 2 of L1 to go up automatically and 3-6th play-off to get a 3rd promotion spot.

What a farce of a situation. http://www.totalrl.com/exclusive-propos ... p-from-l1/

Typical rugby league changing rules before a season is over disgrace really I suppose there worried Bradford might not make it can't run a sport like that

Look Bradford and York will both add massively to the championship there was over 7000 in the ground one of there league games but you can't just move the goalposts cos your worried one of the teams might not get promoted

Makes you think if Leeds would've lost their first two games in the middle 8's would the structure of been different to this proposed one...???

I hope this doesn't mean we are going to the failed system of loop fixtures in SL? What a shambles and the greedy clubs will have got their way.
Congratulations Mr.Lenigan.

Yep, loop fixtures all the way. Playing the same team 3 times. What a pecker up.

11 games H, 11 games away, Magic and 5/6 loop fixtures.

So will the previous seasons standings provide the teams you'd play for the extra loop fixtures?

Shocking. Absolutely disgraceful in so many ways. Pathetic. If you were to assemble 12 trained chimps and give them a laptop apiece they'd come up with a better plan. No wonder that the sport is becoming a laughing stock.

Laughing stock indeed. What other respectable sport alters the structure of the competition with a handful of games left?

We should've moved to a 14 team league. This should've been announced middle/start of last year so that clubs could of prepared and brought in players accordingly or announced now for 2020.
Could of had the last Super 8's as 6th & 7th placed teams playing off for the final spot.
Would then be no crazy looped fixtures.
Would be one relegated/one promoted.
With 27 games in total.
1st place goes straight to final (brings meaning to winning the league), 2nd - 5th play off for the final spot.
Three leagues of 14 (or less in League 1 depending on entrants).

Super League:
Castleford Tigers
Catalans Dragons
Huddersfield Giants
Hull FC
Hull KR
Leeds Rhinos
London Broncos
Salford Red Devils
St Helens
Toronto Wolfpack
Toulouse Olymique
Wakefield Trinity
Warrington Wolves
Wigan Warriors

Championship:
Barrow Raiders
Batley Bulldogs
Bradford Bulls
Dewsbury Rams
Doncaster
Featherstone Rovers
Halifax
Leigh Centurions
Rochdale Hornets
Sheffield Eagles
Swinton Lions
Widnes Vikings
Workington Town
York City Knights

League 1:
Bristol
Coventry Bears
Hemel Stags
Hunslet
Keighley Cougars
London Skolars
Manchester Rangers‎*
Newcastle Thunder
New York Knights*
North Wales Crusaders
Nottingham Outlaws‎*
Oldham
West Wales Raiders
Whitehaven

*Possible entrants.

Cheers. Lurcher. Just feel the leagues just need to be simpler and reasonably similar to each another to allow an easier understanding for them. Need something that new fans to get straight into, none of this you play some teams twice and other three times etc...

I have stated all a long that there was no way the big clubs would vote for a move to 14 clubs in SL because it would reduce the money they get from SKY and they are wanting a bigger share of the pie not less. They are just so short sighted, if this was the best system then why the hell did we move from it a decade ago?

It will stop at 12, if Toronto get promoted via the play-offs. If they don`t they will change it to 14. One way or t`other Toronto will b in Sl next season. Guaranteed!!

What the Sl want is Toronto, New York, London, Toulouse, Catalans, Newcastle, Saints, Wigan, Warrington, a Welsh team, Leeds & Hull. Once they have got that, it will be no promotion and relegation and 50% of the matches being played out to empty stadiums. They will be happy then!!

Same with Bradford in League 1 -- if they finish top they will go up and the rest will play off, if they finish second, then 2 will go up and the rest will play off.

I don’t believe that. SL is made up it the current SL Clubs and only 5 of those would survive, of which one, Leeds doesn’t want that arrangement. All 5 would see a huge reduction in income as there would only be home support and it is questionable whether the TV contract would stack up.
The new clubs would require massive independent financial backing and some including London would never have a guaranteed following unless they were winning all the time.
The American expansion looks pretty flakey after the Denver Test Debacle and Australia doesn’t give a stuff about non Australian RL.
Yes the greedy self interested owners of four existing SL clubs want it even though two of those are just tenants in their shiny new(ish) stadia and have had their own massive financial problems in the past. The scenario that you suggest would surely kill the sport as we know it. If you think differently look at club Rugby Union and County Cricket both with much bigger potential fan bases and both only surviving on the back of an international game we can only dream of.
Pearson, McManus, Lenaghan and Moran may be successful businessmen but like many such in other sports put their brains into their pockets when indulging their sporting fantasies.
