Superleague In talks over multi-million-pound investment
Talks have begun about a potential multi-million-pound investment by private equity into Superleague in what could be a game-changing move for British rugby league.
Bringing new investment into the competition and increasing revenue streams has been the mandate of Super League chief executive Robert Elstone, who assumed the position in June last year after the competition split away from the control of the Rugby Football League.

There will be some devil in the detail for sure if this comes off.Danny Boy wrote:Talks have begun about a potential multi-million-pound investment by private equity into Superleague in what could be a game-changing move for British rugby league.

Multi million people investment.
Old socialist that l am.
I fear that we will see a rich elite of clubs.
Which may see the end of many heartland clubs.
The potential return on investment will be higher with big City franchise.
It could end up with rich teams buying success competing for TV rights and sponsorship.
As a brand it has been under sold for many years.

We need something to compete with other sports. Rugby union is raking it in.

A lot of big money and big business people involved in Union.
The national games bring in huge crowds.
League teams less so and is dwindling in Northern England.
I think our beloved Castleford could be a casualty in a brave new world.
Maybe not immediately but eventually.

Re: Superleague In talks over multi-million-pound investment
With all this talk of multi million investment ongoing and where our "little town club in wakefield" would fit in going forward, I perceive it is imperative that the new ground proceeds and where it will sit neatly into a bigger catchment area (Cas/Pont/Normy and other outlying districts etc) of support and more centralised in "getting to" and with all the facilities coming in next to the proposed ground and all the great existing ones over at Xscape (Hotel/Shopping/Eating/Leisure).
Cas RL could get to be a very big club given this location and some support from WMDC also - enough to be as big as the Rhinos/Hull FC/Wigan's of the world on a financial parity in years to come.
There has to be vision and backers to make this happen but it is there to be massively exploited.
Let's hope all this can be achieved.
